Green Built Home™

Interested in building your next home "green"? Green Built Home is a program of Wisconsin Environmental Initiative and is implemented in partnership with the Madison Area Builders Association.

	In 1999, the Madison Area Builders Association partnered with the Wisconsin Environmental Initiative to pilot the first green building program in the Midwest - Green Built Home. The program has expanded over the years by gaining builders and increasing the number of homes it certifies each year. Green Built Home recently began certifiying remodeling projects, and later this year will introduce a set of guidelines for certiftying multi-family projecets. Green Built Home was recognized for its accomplishments and success earlier this year when it was named "Green Building Program of the Year" at the 2006 National Green Building Conference.

What is Green Built Home?

Green Built Home encourages green building practices that are more energy and resource efficient than traditional building practices. Building green in a comprehensive and cost effective manner means taking the right approach to building design, practices, and material selection.

Does Building Green cost more?

A Green Built Home does not have to cost more, in fact, home owners will realize future cost savings through increased energy efficiency, durability, and less maintenance. Green Built Home builders are implementing sustainable design practices by utilizing energy efficient and green practices and products. A Green Built Home is at least 15 percent more energy efficient than a home built to code.
