In 1999, the Madison Area Builders Association partnered with the Wisconsin Environmental Initiative to pilot the first green building program in the Midwest - Green Built Home. The program has expanded over the years by gaining builders and increasing the number of homes it certifies each year. Green Built Home recently began certifiying remodeling projects, and later this year will introduce a set of guidelines for certiftying multi-family projecets. Green Built Home was recognized for its accomplishments and success when it was named "Green Building Program of the Year" at the 2006 National Green Building Conference.
